Trente Vingt-quatre

Pierre Schwerzmann

Note from the editor:

Pierre Schwerzmann is a Swiss artist, based in Nyon, on the shores of Lac Léman. His parallel career as a teacher has fed into a reflection, or process of questioning, on how to express, as well as choosing modes of expression – including in his collaborations with Boabooks.
For this work, we chose to present sketches of works and research-in-progress.

Schwerzmann has many preparatory stages for the conception of the large-format paintings which characterise his work. The different phases of research and experimentation, and the repeated rituals of sketched drawings on graph paper – which have been sensitively enlarged for this book – propose to the reader a new, immersive perspective on one aspect of the process of painting. These postage-stamp format drawings lead the reader to a second part of the book, a test on a canvas of a small painting (30×24cm).

Above everything, the book makes visible the rhythm and chronological evolution of the artist’s thinking and experimental systems. The title of the book also hints of its own proportions, as well as the format of the edition which Boabooks published with “Pierre Schwerzmann” in 2013.
